Washington opens their 2025 campaign tomorrow against a division rival in the New York Giants. The Commanders look to get off to a hot start against the Giants as Washington has one of the hardest schedules this season.
Jayden Daniels vs. Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson will be the starting QB for the Giants, leaving rookie Jaxson Dart as the 2nd string QB. Wilson beat Daniels and Washington last season as part of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so hopefully our defense shows up unlike last time.
Jayden Daniels played the Giants twice last season and beat them in both instances. It’s a small sample size, but he’s fared well against the Giants in the past. Their defense, specifically their front 4 looks extremely scary and could pose some issues for our offensive line, but I trust Daniels legs to get out of situations if need be.
Washington Offensive Line vs. New York Defensive Line
According to the Washington depth chart, rookie tackle Josh Conerly Jr is listed as our starting RT. This scares me a bit due to the Giants defensive line, but he must’ve impressed in camp and preseason to get that starting nod. The Giants defensive line includes Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter, a line that could pose some serious problems.
Laremy Tunsil, who was acquired via trade from Houston, will be our starting LT. Sophomore Brandon Coleman, who has played all over the line so far in his early career, will start at LG and Tyler Biadasz, Nick Allegretti and Conerly Jr round out the rest of the Washington offensive line. We’ll see if Washington’s offensive line can hold up in the trenches against that stacked New York Giants front.
7th Round Pick to RB2
Just a couple days ago, Washington released their depth chart for the season and many fans were confused why 7th Round Pick Jacorey Croskey-Merritt was listed as RB4. As of today’s ESPN depth chart, Bill, a name he is commonly referred to as, is now listed at RB2, only behind Austin Ekeler. This is a big jump and indicates he’ll be an important part of our game tomorrow against New York. Bill will hopefully split carries with Ekeler, but we’ll see what his impact looks like in his first NFL game.
Trey Amos as CB2
2nd Round Pick Trey Amos impressed during camp and is listed as our starting right CB with Marshon Lattimore slated to start on the left. He’s received high praise from many within Washington and I’m excited to see how he fares against the Giants WRs, specifically Malik Nabers. CB was a weak spot for Washington last year, hence why we traded from Lattimore at the trade deadline. Amos comes in to fill the void left by Ben St. Juste, which shouldn’t be too difficult. Matching up agianst Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson will be something I’ll definitely keep an eye out for on Sunday.
My Prediction
If you’ve kept up with my page, you’ll know I gave Washington a lofty prediction for our season record and I do see us getting off to a hot start with a win this week. I think Jayden Daniels picks up where he left off last season, firing on all cylinders. The Giants will try to stay within striking distance, but by the end of this game, I wouldn’t be shocked if Giants fans are already calling for rookie QB Jaxson Dart.
Score Prediction: Washington 34 – New York 13
This is Yonatan Daniel from DC Triple Play — until next time.
Glad to have Terry back. Makes me feel a bit better about this game.
